An American Monarchy - Flags by Regicollis An American Monarchy - Flags by Regicollis
What if the United States had been a monarchy instead of a republic? The concept is not completely outlandish. After all monarchy was the default form of government back when the United States seceded from British rule. There was also plans to offer the Prussian prince Henry the throne.

Had the continental congress elected a king the title is not unlikely to have been changed to emperor, once the nation grew westwards.

This is how the flags of such an empire could have looked like.

They also offered it to Bonnie Prince Charlie of Scotland and to G. Washington.
A few of his British born  General's wanted him to take it , so they would become Dukes etc.

An interesting concept.

So, would it be a federal monarchy, similar to Canada?

I wonder: what would it look like today?  a world power or just a regional power - in any case, I would hope that life would be worth living in the American Empire.

This is so much more preferable than a republic.

To bad it goes against what our founding fathers and original patriots fought for.

Eboy4190 Featured By Owner Dec 18, 2014
The American Empire, I like it as a concept Clap
ACEnBEAKY Featured By Owner Dec 5, 2014
Yeah, American Emperor rolls off the tongue better than Tsar or Pharoah.
America is a lot like the Romans as it is. I could see it degrading into something kind of like a mix between the Roman and British Empire.

News flash, if it wasn't a monarchy before, it is now.  Certainly it has been an oligarchy from WWI up until the accession of our current monarch/figurehead.
the people's republic of california

Accept nothing about the US even resembles a monarchy at all. An oligarchy, yes (and we were founded as an oligarchy, and we've been shifting back and forth since our founding) but not a monarchy. We don't have a king, or a dictator. We are a republic by definition, and not even close to a monarchy.

I know, it's hard to believe that we actually have elections and the president must still abide by congressional legislation.

Oblama is dictating via executive orders.  He has way exceeded the constitutional bounds of his office.
KingoftheTyrants Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2014
George Bush used a lot more Executive Orders. In fact, Obama has used less executive orders than both George Bush and Bill Clinton. Executive orders are how the president enforces Congressional legislation as well as treaties, the constitution, etc. Nothing he is doing is going against the constitution. At least not any more than any other president in our history.

I gather the Archduke of California is the Heir to the Throne?
Regicollis Featured By Owner Nov 14, 2013
Yes the heir apparent to the American throne is styled Archduke of California, similar to the prince of Wales in Britain and the Spanish prince of Asturias.

Ah! The American Empire. America this to thee!
mdc01957 Featured By Owner Sep 29, 2013
At least the national flag would be the same. :XD:

More seriously though, it would be interesting to see how American history would have played out had the US been a monarchy.

It's funny really. According to accounts, Washington had actually been offered to become the King of America. However, he said something along the lines of, "I did not defeat a king to become a king."
HeliosMegistos Featured By Owner Apr 1, 2014
I think it was "I did not defeat King George the 3rd only to become King George the 1st" or something to that effect
aruon Featured By Owner Sep 27, 2013
